Simpson, Barr and Irwin Shine at a Wet Desertmartin

MX2

KTM UKs Shaun Simpson continued his dream season as took the lead of the British Motocross championship at desertmartin after dominating 1-1 victory in the MX2 class. Back in title contention is local Favourite Martin Barr who battled injuries but pushed Shaun all the way in the first moto, a lack of bike time and a rock in the face in the 2nd moto, meant settling for 2nd place again and 2nd overall but he showed the style and speed that he needs for the rest of the season and in the GPs. Carl Nunns experience and smooth riding on a rough track gained him 3rd overall and now 4th place in the championship. Stephen Sword had a bad day courtesy of an injured shoulder sustained in France and dropped to 2nd in the series but is only 9 points behind Simpson. Surprise package was Moto One Suzuki's Graeme Irwin who should have had 4th in the first moto except for a final corner mistake which allowed Jason Dougan to nab 4th by millimetres at the flag a 10th in moto 2 gave the 16 year old hotshot an impressive 7th overall. His performance will no doubt will have been noted by the top British teams, he was running with and beating their GP stars, and they probably didn’t know who he was!

MX1

Wayne Smith took his first career victory at this level, and made all the hard work worthwhile through the years. With fantastic riding all day Smith made the most of his start in moto 2 and cleared off, similar to how Ray Rowson had done in moto 2 – is there a changing of the guard in MX1? The pre race favourites Church, Noble and Anderson were there and there abouts all day but had now answer to the speed of Smith and Rowson. Noble however is nothing but consistant and after 3rd in the first race he rook advantage of Rowson crashing out of 2nd in the final race to grab 2nd overall ahead of Ray in 3rd. Anderson had bad starts that meant only 4th overall while Mark Jones still battling an injured knee rode to an invisible 5th overall. Wayne Garret was best of the local riders with 13th and 12th place finishes but he was very close to an 8th in moto one until a crash robbed him then a bad start in moto2 meant he had to play catch up. Richard Bird was also impressive with 15th and 19th places while Gary Gibson also scored some points to show case his talent on a British level.
